For a pre-workout stimulant boost, most research shows that 3-4 mg/kg of bodyweight of caffeine ingested orally OVER 45 minutes prior to exercise is the optimal dose range.
In general, doses of caffeine alone over ~500-600mg preworkout will not benefit exercise performance more than ~4mg/kg ingested preworkout.
