Things I love most about being a teenager.

1. Very little stress. (most of the time, anyway)
2. Getting drunk every night.
3. Growing fast in the gym and making the old men jealous biggrin.gif
4. Fresh... young... bootay laugh.gif No old, boring wives here.
5. Stuffing my face and not getting fat.
6. FRESH... YOUNG... BOOTAY!! tongue.gif

I'm trying to make a list and enjoy the hell out of my last year as a teen. Things get much more complicated after this.

Party up.

My last year as a teen also. Loving every minute and all the perks that go with it.

That list is all fine and stuff, but.. to offer a counterpoint

1. Living at home sucks. If you're old enough for college, great, but annoying roommates and such can be a pain. Having to work on your own to pay for books, rent, tuition, and food is very stressful even if you have loans for the tuition. When you finally do move out, you're usually at the bottom of the food chain and life is tough unless you have someone helping you out.

2. If you're like me and care about your grades, it sucks putting in a lot of study time without any immediate rewards or monetary compensation. School itself can be stressful. Obviously if you don't care, it's not that bad, but it can easily come back and bite you if you have that attitude.

3. Girls your own age are often as immature as you are (not always, but still).

4a. Never had any/much money, and couldn't get many good paying jobs yet to remedy
4b. Have to rely on family for financial support and room/board
4c. Where you can get work, it's usually something where people look down on you (cashier, etc)

5. Until you're 18, a lot of things are 'prohibited' and you can't even legally drink until you're 21. You can usually get around this, but all it takes is getting caught once.

Just to add... My best gains in the gym did not come until after my school days, despite good training and diet. Body maturity and the whole lack of sleep/party/stress factor stuff going on. I've always been endomorphic and could not stuff my face and not get fat. Keeping a 4.0GPA was very stressful, and home life itself often just added on. More than one of my close friends committed suicide while under 20. I always wish I could have enjoyed my teenage years as much as some of you guys. At the same time though, I'm much happier now that I have complete control over my life, can afford the things I both need and want, and the girls are as good looking and probably more fun than ever.

Any older people who got 4.0 GPA's in here, what did you find harder, the constant studying of school or the long hours of work? (Aside from the personal responsibilities you inherit by living on your own)

Both are the same.

What is difficult about real jobs is not the workload, but dealing with people. Especially dealing with bosses, for many, many reasons. Ironically, one's relationship with the boss is much more important than the employee's competence.

I don't think they'll 'lot' me up and throw away the key. It stays on your record though, which *can* be checked later on by the government and such. Also, if you live in a small town, getting arrested for stupid crap can stick with you until you move out. My point was not that you go to prison, or even that I give a damn what you do as a kid, but rather just the fact that it isn't legal sucks. Most stores aren't going to sell you alcohol and such, and if you get caught you get shit from your family (usually) and/or cops. Are you going to go to jail even overnight? Maybe not, but I'm happy with not even having to deal with it.

Yes, there are more important things in life, like getting a good job to support a family and nice lifestyle. Thing is, unless you already have a rich uncle or something, it can be a lot easier to do if you have good grades. There is more to life than bodybuilding, but that doesn't mean we all don't spend hours in the gym each week. It's more than that though, it's the simple fact that some of us just aren't happy with a job done half-assed.

I'm not a teen and am only replying to this thread because I saw it come up under "New Posts"...

getting caught isn't a big deal, being on your FBI record isn't going to prevent you from ever getting a job...or being a lawyer or doctor or president...I also grew up in a small town (so small it didn't have a post office) and I know what ya mean about it getting around town and stuff like that...IMHO it was easily worth the risk...and yes I have been caught doing all kindsa stupid stuff

As for the grades they are strictly major/career dependant...they do matter in HS obviously so that you can get into a decent college
but once ur outta college nobody cares if you were honor roll all 4 years in college or in HS, they don't care if you were king of the glee club or any of that crap (unless ur applying to grad school)...there are only a few careers that really care about grades and they tend to be anything dealing with finance. Those folks are just statisticians so they like to see numbers...

I got a job outta college as a computer programmer with a large company (80k employees) and have been through 6 jobs since then, and not a single one has ever asked for a college transcript or what my grades were and this has been the case with all the people I've ever talked to on the subject...
...interviewers (in my experience) just care that ur going to fit in with the culture of a company and that ur not a dick or dork.

I'm amused that you like to point out my typing mistakes though:)

I guess some of us lead better lives than others. I still don't have a driver's license, can't go anywhere on my own, am constantly looked down upon and have my ability to be a responsible person questioned at every turn, have no girlfriend, can't even find a chick that remotely seems half-interested and barely have any friends with the ones I do have starting to resemble snakes. Other than that...Yeah, I guess I love being a teenager.
collegeboy
damn, some of you guys have some pretty depressing lives tongue.gif

I think the best thing about being a teenager is being able to create yourself. You can determine who you want to be. Are you going to be a bookworm? a jock? a wigger? a thug? etc. Anyway, you get the point.

When I was about 14, I decided I wanted to be that guy. You know, the one who is cool with everyone, gets good grades and the girls. So I hit the gym and the books, and tried to be openminded and learned as much as I could about people and the way people think. And I'm not bragging at all, don't get me wrong, but I'm everything I wanted to be and more. I'm by no means perfect and never aspired to be, but I can say I'm happy with myself and some badass teenage years.

For those teens out there who still arent happy with yourselves, there's still time. Don't give up. Don't be someone you're not. Be the person you always knew you were.

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS LAME!! biggrin.gif But seriously, I meant every word.

What's to stop you from doing this at any time in your life? Absolutely nothing, though people bind themselves to tradition and ideals of others.

The best thing about being a teenager? Being fucking retarded to the world around you.

Work is without a doubt harder. Like mentioned you become reliant on other people doing their work in order for you to get to yours. Couple that with the fact that a lot of people don’t give a shit about their own work (let alone yours) and you are at times left compensating for slack-asses in order to come through on your end.

Also, with school, in a given major there is a finite degree of difficulty. If you find your classes easy, you cruise through without problems. With work, if you blow away what is given to you, be ready for something else to be piled on (most likely with a greater degree of difficulty, more at stake, and not proportionately better compensation – at least not immediately). This is great in the long run but sure puts any stress over a final to shame.

I think that goes for anyone, it makes me wonder. I know some truely ignorant people, both adult and adolescent, who seem truely happy.

:warning: im about to go off topic
i sometimes think being ignorant of life and happy would be better than having the awareness and intelligence to kno how fucked up things really r, dealing w/ it, and still trying to be happy.

that begs the question of what is of more importance, being happy, or not being an ignorant fool

I know but a handful of teenagers who understand the lack of gravity of their current situation in high school. When collegeboy said he was going to be the "cool guy", whatever that means, I just about put my head through the monitor. While I don't have the understanding that I do now, I used to tell the self important individuals "You think this matters? You think the girls, the parties, being "cool" or high school matters for anything? This is nothing. You're nothing. I'm nothing. We're all nothing."

The smartest kid I knew? He graduated 1.5 years early so he could play drums for a rock band. When that didn't work, he started going to the local community college, graduated Summa Cum Laude and will be graduating from the WP Carrie school of Business here in Arizona with his BA in Business Management. He's already owned his own successfull pool cleaning business (inherited it from a neighbor and after 2 years of making near 25k per year, he sold it for 22k); he owns his own condo which he rents out to people as he builds the equity. The moral of the story?

So what? Who cares that what they do now, and how many parties and girls, or whatever else they are interested in, may not matter much to their situation later in life why is that reason to not enjoy the current situation as much as possible. Not everything has to be earth shatteringly important to be worthwhile.

Holy misunderstanding, batman!! mad.gif

Thanks for the pointless attack. But I'm afraid you're meaning of "cool" doesn't exactly match my meaning. I am myself and only myself. I wasn't trying to be mr. popularity or prom king or any of that bullshit. I simply wanted to be a likeable person. I hardly think there's anything wrong with that. I'm in the semi-real world now. You don't have to fuckin' preach to me that the high school social world means nothing. PLEASE! save your rants for anorexic 15 year old girls who sell their souls and spend all their parent's money on designer clothes just to become prom queen.

About your story (that I think was suppose to prove something??)...I think it's sad any teenager would piss away some of the most care-free years of his/her life just to make a buck or two. But each to his own.

SERIOUSLY!! why the FUCK does everyone on this board think I'm some kind of young, dumb, ignorant asshole? I seem to get these, "you're a young idiot who doesn't know shit" rants all the time... all coming from cynical, bitter people who don't know me at all.

That's hardly my autobiography. It's a few carefree things I can do/get away with now that I won't be able to in a few years. That's it. If you'd pay attention to my other posts, you might find a different, more intellectual and caring side of me.

But judge away as you wish.
