Is the darkness of urine related to the intake of protein.

I have upped my protein intake rate from 2.2g to 2.5g, along and incorporated 15ml cider vinegar 5 times per day, and noticed a much darker colour in my urine.

I do not think that I am particularly dehydrated, and will keep a closer eye on this. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas about why this was, and whether there is an association with the protein or the cider vinigar.

Not that I am aware of. Not drinking sufficient fluids is the first thing that comes to mind. Certain foods (I think beets may be one) can effect urine color. How long has your urine been a different color? Are you feeling well otherwise? If your urine is....it is usually described as tea colored it can indicate liver problems.

I did a little search and don't think that i fall into the special types of colouring (tea or beets, etc).

How long has it changed for = 5 days, during which time, the main thing altered was the protein and vinigar intake changes. Dehydration is another possibility, but I will have to wait a little longer to eliminate this as a factor.

Feeling well = yeah fine! It was just making me curious as hell as to what it was.

Cheers ScottL

If your urine is dark because you are dehydrated, and you then increase your fluid intake, your urine will return to normal color within hours.

i concur with Scott. When I first started taking close to 200g of protein per day, I noticed it went dark. So i started drinking much more water. Now it's as clear as a bottled Eviann water biggrin.gif . Basically, 'i think' your kidneys have to work that much harder with a higher protein intake and not enough fluid intake?
Josh
ScottL and sputnik - It seems as if you were correct. I think it was dehydration. My water needs did seem to increase a bit on increasing my P intake.

Normally I would agree, but I also needed to check this as a factor on my total body weight, hence the time lag.
