I'm on my way home, renting a car since mine is in the shop. My brother was in a serious accident last night and they are having to conduct tests to see if he has brain damage. One of his friend's, and a guy who was my neighbor & i've known for 20 years was killed in the accident.

to think 24 hours ago I was bitching about my car

Be thankful for what you have today, you never know what will happen.

I expect you all to post in this section and keep it active. I want this section to grow.

Thanks for your thoughts guys... it means a lot to me. Right now he is still in critical condition, but he is responding to commands by squeezing the nurses' hand. I got a chance to see him and he's pretty banged up. He was thrown from the car at 60 mph and landed on his face. It's a miracle he didn't break his neck. Just about every bone in his face is broken, his brain is what we are most concerned with now. He has a hematoma (blood induced swelling) near his brain, now it has not increased in size since this morning which is very good news, if it just stays that way by tommorow they should begin discussing surgical options to fix his face.

There is nothing like seeing your brother lying helpless on an ICU table to make you rethink the way you see life.

Hey Str8,

Sorry man, I truly am...

About 4 years ago,my mother was hit by a drunk driver, cannot wait, had months of rehab, had to stay at a full time care place for 7 months....

She got depressed and developed(or at least began to finally show) bipolar disorder....she got fired for mistreating clients soon after...now she has grown extremely obese and is completely sedentary....will not seek medical care....etc etc...

Life is amazing, it can change in the blink of an eye. My completely independent ,kind mother was changed forever in one night. My life was too...I had to take a semester off, lost my dog,apartment,girlfriend...thats all small stuff compared to family....really makes you see whats important...you know?

I must tell you...whatever happens, find something to keep you going...for me in all honestly it was the gym...." I always leave my troubles at the dooor...and pick them up on the way out."

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers man.

they had an article in my paper today. Sherrif said the car "looked like an accordian" Wheeles and parts scattered all over the place"

Scary stuff

God bless Layne, I hope all turns out as good as possible

My condolences Layne, and best wishes for a full recovery.

Neurosurgeon finally cleared jamon for facial reconstructive surgery. The hematoma in his head has not gotten any bigger over the past 48 hours and he is now considered stable... I am back home in champaign now trying to make sense of everything. I'm happy he will be ok but it's still wild... he hardly looks like my brother anymore his face is so messed up sad.gif

Layne, sorry to hear about your brother and friend. It sounds like your brother is doing better. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your brother and your family. It's a crazy time right now but it will get better.

Layne i hope that your brother recovers 100 percent from this i am sorry to hear about this and my condolences to you and your friends famly for the loss.
Gene
Layne I'm deeply saddened by this tragic and unfair accident. I hope the doctors work their magic and your brother recovers to the fullest potential possible.

I have just one question, and please don't presume any callousness.

I read the article. The driver, Nicholas Wigand, had a BAC of 0.2 and no one in the car wore a seatbelt ? Have you had a chance to talk to this guy????
Chuck
Wow I haven't visited these forums in ages (been very busy lately), but I comeback to find out a long-time friend's brother is seriously hurt. You have my condolensces Layne. I read the article, what a tragedy. The driver had a BAC level of 0.2? WOW. That's pretty high.

To anyone interested here's the link to the article on this:

Jamon is going to end up ok... his hemotoma is all but gone and the facial surgery went well. Right now he is very depressed as he has just been sitting in a bed with nothing to do. I tried to cheer him up by buying him a book on tape, truck magazine (he likes trucks) and a new gameboy advance to give him something to do while he's in the hospital... I don't know if it's helping though. He still doesn't know about his friend's death.

Nick actually came by to visit Jamon. My parents were pretty forgiving, it could have been any one of those 4 driving and it happened to be nick. That said, he was the most drunk and his liscence was suspended. He made some BAD choices and he'll be probably going to jail. He did check himself into rehab the other day... trying to get his life together I guess. The real tragedy is that Wes, a good, smart kid, is dead.

To anyone young reading this (under 25) YOU ARE NOT INVINCIBLE. Any of us can have EVERYTHING taken from us at anytime. Don't forget that... make good choices.

-Layne
Your Excellency
Deeply sorry to hear about this. God's speed.

Layne I really feel for you and your brother. Less than a month ago I was in a terrible accident. Got t-boned by another car when i was doing about 60. They say if i were in any other car I would be dead for sure. When you get that close to death, you really rethink life. Coming so close to death can change your life. I hope the best for your brother, I can only imagine what mental struggle he is going through right now. If he remembers the accident, he probably keeps replaying it in his head as do I.
BluSilver
I'll be praying for your brother, family, and friends. I wish you and your family strength.

Whats the current status of your bro? Did surgery go good enough that he will have no real defects from this accident? I hope he is alright.
str8flexed
surgery went great he's going to be ok. He still doesn't know about his friend, my parents are scared to break it to him but they need to. It's time. He is really pissy about being in the hospital so long & I kind of want to ring his neck and say "you're lucky to be alive you fucking idiot" and then give him a hug sad.gif
