About Me

I am a 19 year old freshman at Trinity University (a VERY tough private school) in San Antonio. I am trying to become a pharmacist, so in turn I have to take basically the same classes as pre-med students, which is turning out to be a little tough. Organic chemistry is basically owning me at this very moment and Biology is no walk in the park either. Some nights i really just need to study but be able to go to bed and wake up in the next morning (something methylphenidate wont allow me to do) so I am hoping Focus XT can help me out then as well as when I'm just studying between classes. I will most likely also use it periodically pre-workout if I'm feeling slow.

My experiences with Focus XT Ingredients

L-tyrosine: I have used it with dosages from 2.5g/day to 6g/day. I could never really "feel" it working.

ALCAR: Used to scoop out 1/4 tsp (IIRC) and would get a nice mental stimulation. Tasted weird

Vinpocetine: Never felt anything from it, but supposedly my dosage was too low (i used 10mg, supposed to use 40mg).

Caffeine: Eh, used to be sensitive to it, now its just a slight pick me up.

Other Nootropics Used During This Log

Methylphenidate will probably be used but not on the same day as Focus XT.

I would like to personally thank SNS for sending me this bottle to log, as it comes at a time when I REALLY need it. I am hoping this product will live up to the great reviews I've been reading everywhere else and help me to achieve my goals in school and in the weightroom...

Now let's get it on!

so yesterday....

took a scoop, mixed in water and added a 1/4 tsp of splenda. wow, this stuff tasted pretty damn good (pink lemonade). i was actually taken aback when i saw the flavor name at first but it seems to have a nice taste IMO.

so I finished the bottle and then went down to study. didn't feel any sort of stim-like effect i.e. i wasn't more amped up or anything but I was more zoned in. it was analagous to the feeling of having something due in an hour and you need to get it done and somehow it gets finished because youre just locked in. I didn't really take note what time this occured as it wasnt a sudden surge in concentration.

You do mean 2.5-6g of Tyrosine right? I never have felt anything from Tyrosine either at the 1.5-2g range sad.gif

BTW,i didnt feel it.. (i cant really tell if you knew this from your post)

today, i decided to take some Focus XT before my workout under these conditions:

3 hrs after eating
30 mins preworkout
w/ 1 scoop whey protein

I got into workout and my first exercise (BB rows) went really well. I had a good M2M connection which I rarely get on the exercise and did 5 sets of 4 at 195. After this exercise though i felt as though i was zoning out. It felt like my workout mightve been too boring or something better was going on. I just kind of stared off to the side through most exercises. I'm thinking I will try this again but only 2 hrs after a meal and see if itll make a difference.
rkieltyk
well i took another serving today approximately an hour after eating and right when track practice started. I felt really impatient during a team meeting we had (5 minutes after finishing focus xt) though I doubt anything kicked in that fast. I then went to throw and did pretty well actually, I felt really alert during practice, though towards the end (2 hrs after focus xt) i felt a little sluggish. Today was my "squat day" at the gym, though my hip is pretty messed up right now, so i was limited to front squats and very light box squats (which were rather embarrasing). I set a new PR on front squats at 225x3, which was nice...

so far, so good. I'm going to give this a try when i really need to study (probably tommorow) and will report back.
rkieltyk
Well, I completely wasted (IMO) a serving yesterday as I was about to go study but instead took my friend to go get dip (I quit awhile ago), I ended up buying some redman and we went to watch the home opener for our uni's baseball team. Needless to say I predicted all the pitches both pitchers were going to throw and picked off the opposing team's signs.. lol
rkieltyk
Took a serving 30 minutes pre-workout yesterday (an upper body day, FYI) and just didn't really feel it. I have come to the conclusion that taking this pre-workout just is not for me. I have yet to try this with extra caffeine or other stimulants so i might have to give that a try later on.
rkieltyk
Alright, sorry for not updating this, as the past two days have been rather busy..

I do have a funny story to tell about my biology lab later that evening though, I'll report back later as well with feelings about today's dose

In biology lab that day we were going to do various things with chicken eggs/embryos. It was pretty cool at the end as we got to inject a live embryo with epinephrine and saw its heart speeed up. So, to get the embryos out you had to crack the egg open. I have been making eggs for breakfast for probably the last 3 years so I had a little experience. Every other group was taking a pair of scissors and tapping around the top of the egg to make a full circle then pulling the circle out and trying to pour the yolk/embryo out of the egg and keep it intact. This process took most of them around 5 minutes. Well, i decided I would just crack the egg on the side of the bowl like i usually do and open it up...and it worked, we finished our lab a good 30 minutes before the other groups as even when they cut the hole out the embryo yolk didnt stay intact.
I also accidently popped a deshelled egg that exploded all over my clothes and it stunk (it had been sitting in a vinegar solution).

So, back to the log:

Basically the past few days I have been using focus xt to help me with memorizing o-chem reactions involving alkenes and alkynes and I feel its helped me tremendously. My recall ability seems slightly faster than what it was before (this will save me time on the test I hope). Also Focus XT has been helping WRT not getting distracted. For some reason it makes things like browsing the internet seem boring. (maybe thats why my workout I was spaced out, as I feel I need to be learning) Distractions have been one of the main things that kill my studying abilities, besides poor time management which is completely on my shoulders. BTW, I find myself kind of craving the lemonade taste after Ive had a serving.

As far as pre workout, Focus XT is more for improved mind muscle connection, focus, and concentration than it is for all out energy during training. I have seen in some other logs though excellent feedback on it stacked with some other pre workout things...saw one the other day about it stacked with NO shotgun.

Alright, sorry Ive been busy as usual with school...

Yesterday:
I had a quiz in all of my classes yesterday along with work, practice, my own workout and tons of studying for o-chem test on friday. I decided I would use Focus XT to get my day started as that's when the quizzes took place. Needless to say it got me going. Everyone seemed to be dragging ass (it was a monday) yet I felt "determined," something pretty atypical for a day like yesterday. I aced my psychology quiz, felt I probably got a B on my organic chem quiz (as my teacher grades like a nazi) and bio quiz, well we'll see. I was more attentive in class than usual and overall felt confident (probably connected to determined feeling).

Today:
Today's schedule was MUCH less strenuous than yesterday's as I only had 1 class and no work. I used Focus XT to help me memorize/review the o-chem alkene/yne reactions I needed to know. My ability to learn new things and store them into long term memory (at least i think so) has improved considerably since using Focus XT. I learned about 8 new reactions today along with a large number of mechanisms. All this was done during nutrition class and somehow I was able to process what my professor was saying as well as learn new material for chemistry. I even debated with the professor while I was working on chemistry, it was quite humorous (IMO).

BTW, I've been paying attention to how long it takes for concentration to "kick in" and its about 20 minutes after food and 15 minutes when taken on empty stomach. (230lbs, male)

Good detail there. It seems this varies somewhat by the person so I always like hearing individual results with it.

Well, thursday and friday I used Focus XT for finishing off studying and taking my organic chem test. I felt pretty confident thursday with my knowledge of the material and only studied for about 2-3 hrs after taking focus xt. I really feel that focus xt improved my recall ability. Friday morning was the test and I woke up a little nervous considering I hadn't studied the previous night (just during the afternoon). Had a scoop of focus xt with my breakfast and went off to class. I wizzed through a majority of the exam and didn't seem to struggle remembering any reactions or shifts or anything of that nature. I should find out the results of the exam monday or wednesday. The average will probably be around a 62, so im going for an 80...
rkieltyk
Well, thursday I used Focus XT to finish up studying the material for my organic chem test and felt pretty confident with it. I feel Focus XT really improved my recall ability and my ability to soak up information quicker than I have been able to before. Normally, I would have been up thursday night on ADD meds trying to finish learning all the material but somehow i learned everything before hand. The o-chem test was friday morning and I took a scoop about 40 minutes before class. I wizzed through most of the exam (except a question involving fisher projections, diasteromers and enantiomers, as I have trouble visualizing the molecules) and I was fairly quick at solving the synthesis problems which are now my favorite type to work out. The average on this test will probably be fairly low, I'm guessing around 60 out of 100 pts, so hopefully I scored well above because I need the grade boost...
rkieltyk
Well, i got a B- on the organic chem test. Which is around where my grade is currently. [bitching] Its just that our damned university sucks in terms of science classes unless youre a genius. We cover what other colleges cover over an entire year and squeeze it into 1 semester. I believe this is to get people to med school but I'm pretty sure its screwing me out of pharmacy school currently. I really don't think I'll be able to get a high enough GPA to be considered. It really sucks because my friend at another UT austin used to copy me all the time has a 3.4 i believe and I'm confident I have a much greater work ethic than him[/bitching]

But yeah, Focus XT has had beneficial effects in terms of processing information (around the time when i take it, as for other times I'm not certain). My recall ability is great now and I feel confident in memorizing "tedious" things for my class. I would go into detail about the past few days use but honestly its been the same throughout (which is a good thing). A sharp mental boost for about 2 hrs, which is generally the time frame i work in (inbetween meals). I'll update this if I notice something else occuring but expect a final review of the product soon.

final review....

Focus XT is a great supplement. It contains the basic, tried and true nootropics (though it was still listed as a proprietary blend, grr.. but i digress). During the extent of the log I was mainly using Focus XT to help me memorize reactions for organic chemistry and that it did, as I scored well on the test concerning them (B- but my professor is a grading nazi). I had a noticeable increase in recall ability and it seemed as though I was picking up new material faster than I had been able to before. Aside from using it to study for o-chem, I seemed to turn to Focus XT (this is going to sound cheesy but its true) whenever I needed to focus because there were times when I would just find anything to do to avoid having to study. Whenever I had these lazy moments and needed to get things done, I would just mix up a scoop and for some reason it would cause me to get bored of browsing the internet, which would then lead me to studying, usually for about 2 hours or so of clear focus, then it would start to wear off a little and I'd go eat and get back to being lazy smile.gif Another minor little detail that I mentioned quite often throughout the log was the fact that it tasted pretty good. I don't know if others that drink it feel the same but something about it just seemed to hit the spot. The only downfall of this supplement (IMO) was that it just did not work for me pre-workout. I would just space out, possibly because I associate taking Focus XT with studying. I also think the servings per bottle listed on the nutrition facts might have been wrong. It said 20, but I'm pretty sure I took ~25 servings and there were still a couple left when I headed back home today. The price that it breaks down to is really good if you compare it to...anything really (minus ADD medicine). At "20" servings it comes down to $1 per serving, which is cheaper than basically any good energy drink (re: monster) and has a much better ingredient profile, nootropic wise. Overall, a great nootropic and I will be buying a bottle a couple weeks before finals roll around.
