Full Version: Foskolin and Mononucleosis

I was diagnosed with mononucleosis last week, though thankfully I seem to have a pretty minor case of it (I have annoying night sweats, and occasionally a tinge of a sore throat, but otherwise feel 98% fine). I'm working out only about twice a week, even though I feel fine and my strength hasn't suffered at all, as I don't want to overdo it and overtax my system while it's trying to fight the mono. My doctor said working out is fine as long as I don't feel like I'm getting run down and overtaxing myself.

I was thinking of taking forskolin in order to try to prevent any muscle loss while I try to fight this thing. Is there any reason not to? I know it raises cAMP -- is there any harm in doing that (or in any other aspect of the supplement) when it comes to affecting the immune system one way or the other?

My inclination would be to hold back from working out for a little while longer. I know you hate to lose muscle, but trust me, mono is not anything you want to play around with. Mono can take years to recover from if you're not careful. I had mono about 15 years ago and was told to take it easy for a couple of months. I didn't listen to that information and worked out as soon as I felt better. That was the start of chronic fatigue syndrome from which I still suffer. So my suggestion is to lay off for a few weeks if you can hold out.

As to the forskolin, I have no clue.

Careful with working out, mono can enlarge your liver and spleen, which could lead to serious injury. I was told not to workout when I had mono, I actually lost approximately 40 lbs inside of two weeks (not exaggerating). Then again my case sounded more serious than yours. But early on I felt good, I didn't work out but I also didn't slow down and rest enough. As a result my condition worsened and I had to get hooked up to an IV for four days in the hospital because my lymph nodes enlarged so much I couldn't drink, eat, or talk.
