I've got some guar gum on order from nutraplanet and I've used Now's Inulin w/FOS from BN before.taste was reminescent of splenda, good consistency when thoroughly blended.

Pyillium husk ranks at the bottom, taste wise.I've found that if you blend it long enough you can get rid of chunks but the residual pasper/tree taste is still there.

Any input on the taste of guar gum?

I'm thinking of adding 10-15 grams to 24 oz. of FF Calorie Countdown milk and a scoop of Matrix 5.0 and blend/aerate the fuck out of it.

I woulda stayed with NOW's Inulin for the taste/texture(sporting FOS is also cash-money) but nutraplanet doesn't offer it sad.gif

Anything else that works good in shake to induce satiety?

I tried powdered guar gum a while back. Did nothing for satiety, and felt like i was drinking a liquid with undisolved powder in it.

I think biotests meal replacement does a good job of filling me up - and I am always hungry. I bought designer's protein hoping it would be thick because its a casien, but it was as thin as whey, which is good if you like that.

10-15 grams of guar or xantham gum will make the shake way too thick to drink... you'll have to eat it with a spoon. Good idea for pudding, though.

I use guar gum. It's pretty good for thickening. Hardly has any flavor if you don't use too much of it. It's very important that it's mixed well with other powders prior to adding liquids or you'll end up with lumps if you mix it by hand. Never noticed any thickening effects from FOS or inulin, but they taste good and are an easy to use fiber source. You should experiment with the amount of guar or xanthan gum you need. I wouldn't use more than 3 grams based on your given amounts and see if you want more or less thickening.
cakes and pies!!!
guar gum has an unpleasant taste IME. and yeah, 10g would be insane. xanthan gum is a much better option. no taste and provides slighly better texture than guar gum. its great for baking too!

Unflavored gelatin powder.

Xanthan gum, no question.

I don't know about satiety, guess I'm generally oblivious to this, but Milk Protein Isolate will significantly increase a shakes viscosity, almost to a point of chewiness in my experience.

Xanthum gum works great for me. 1/8 tsp in 16oz of liquid works just great - it obviously depends on what else is in there, of course.
