It's just unbelievable.

First Joe Lauzon KOs Jens Pulver.

Then Randy Couture beats Tim Sylvia.

Then Matt Serra KOs GSP.

Now, Gonzaga KOs CroCop with the very same method that CroCop is so famous for using.

It's obvious that

1) CroCop took this guy way too lightly. He was way too tentative and should have gone after him like he did Sanchez.

2) CroCop was completely unprepared for fighting in the cage. He didn't seem to have any answer for the elbows and the fence. If Dean hadn't stood them back up, CroCop probably would have been GnPed out.

How can you not even practice in a cage?!

I thought that the stand up was questionable at best. It really seemed to give a huge (unrealized) potential advantage to Cro Cop. The way his foot twisted under his weight was brutal to watch.

I was never a huge crocop fan, but wow man, that was quite a moment to watch crocop get head kick ko'd...

Props to Gonzaga though, he was on fire! It is kind of a shame somtimes to see two really good guys go at it because one of them HAS to lose, you know what I mean? Like when Crocop ko'd Wanderlei in the Open Weight GP... But hey, on the other hand, we can't have all the good guys fighting scrubs for the rest of their lives..

I was a bit dissapointed by the outcome of the CC fight. He didn't do much of anything.
I don't understand why a striker that has a disadvantage on the ground and in the cage would come into the fight, as SS stated above, without practicing in a cage.
The foot all twisted was messed up. I'm surprised nothing was broke. he seemed to be walking out fine, although with a slight limp.
I hope he can rebound from this and learn from these mistakes.

Also, the Arlovski/Werdum fight was a total snooze fest. It seems if AA can't get the KO in the 1st round or 2, he becomes really tentative to avoid losing. Werdum didn't do much of anything.
I've really wondered how AA's ground game is. Supposedly he is trained in Sambo, but he almost seems like a fish out of water on the ground. Look at Fedor, he's well versed in Sambo, and he'll stomp the shit out of anyone on the ground.

Bisping looked good. I often wonder if Elvis Sinosic realizes what his role has been made out to be. He's a name people recognize, and it's a good way to get a up and coming fighter some credibility with fans. He seems like he comes into the fight, will only fight so hard to put on a good show, and then let the other guy completely dominate him.
I feel the same was done back when Ken Shamrock fought Rich Franklin. I don't think the UFC comes out and directly tells them to do this, but it seems they are rewarded when they do. Look at Elvis. He won his 1st fight in the UFC against Jeremy Horn. Then he goes on and loses what, 7 fights in a row? The UFC normally seems to cut a guy after they lose a couple in a row, yet he's still around, as though they are rewarding him for helping make names for the new guys.

Elvis is a gate keeper.

His name is well known, he puts up a good fight but is just not good enough to really beat the top guys. So UFC put him in against the new rising star to see how good that star really is. His style also makes his opponents look good. So you put the english guy in against Elvis in England. That way if he wins (Bisping) it is likely to be an entertaiing win. Which enhances his reputation as a fighter to watch and gets the Englisg mma fans following Bisping hoping he will be champion one day. If he looses then they can always say Elvis is a seasoned guy and then build the rising star back up with a few cans.

UFC is basically about money for the owners, to get money they need to entertain the fans, fans like fights that DONT go to descision. So UFC likes guys that bring it even if they keep loosing.

I rewatched some of CroCop's fights last night.

Where was the CroCop that was aggressive and just completely stuck it to Wanderlei??

Where was the CroCop that did the same to Eddie Sanchez??

He just looked waaaay too tentative against Gonzaga. Something was up.

And yeah, the Arlovski-Werdum fight was boring as hell. Arlovski has got to start using his explosiveness more. He's being too tentative, as well.

I'm still not sure if Bisping is for real. Let's see him face a mid-level guy now instead of a tomato can.

Crocop caught the high kick, but now millions of fans have post-traumatic stress disorder sad.gif

Arrogance IMO. Crocop didn't even train in a cage...or watch Couture/Silva until weeks after it aired. He thought he would walk right through Gonzaga, not so lucky. He may not have even considered what happened to be possible.

Gabriel seems to have done the polar opposite--imagine the hours he must have spent studying every CC fight ever. His strategy was comparable to Fedor's when he beat CroCop also...

While we are talking about heavyweights, did anyone see Randy? Good god, he looked about 250 in that suit. GG vs. Randy will be one fo the best fights ever IMO
Jon
my wife commented on Randy's size as well. He did look extra large in the suit. Didn't look like he had a neck
SonOfThor
Cro cop def. looked out of it.. no intensity that we saw when he put the beatdown on wanderlei or barnett... He looked and fought like a man posessed in the OWGP - guess he was just having an off day. Maybe caught his girlfriend cheating, or found rust starting on the fender of his car?

Yes I was quite dissapointed to see Cro Cop get knocked out like that...by his own move!

Ah well, this is his 5th loss in his MMA career so I wouldn't count him out just yet. I hope he comes back with a fury.

Honestly he either wasn't there mentally or was too arrogant coming in the fight.

One of my fave CroCop fights:

I couldn't go to sleep for like 30 minutes I got so hyped up. While not being quite as bad as the "theisman roll" (youtube joe theisman), shit like that gets to me I can't watch it.

Pretty appropriate since he didn't train in the cage and take the fight seriously.

Randy was swoll-on too.
