NOW Defence

and i have gotten used to the taste.

i still havent finished the first bottle, so would you say the strain in gut health is better?

whats the differance between these two?
and how are they different from the brands that require refigiration?

Not D Sade but pubmed has quite a few articles on the strain of Lactobacillus Casei KE-99 that GH contains. Fitnecisse (Colby) wrote a Mind and Muscle article that details and compares KE-99 to other products. Mainly KE-99 being more shelf stable (the lactobacillus doesn't die as easy) and that most products, though still efficacious, contain dead lactobacillus.

Yeah i read through that. thats why im asking about this, i know certain brands need to be refrigirated, but from what i learned this particular NOW brand keeps the bacteria alive becuase it contains fermented soil and green food in the powder itself.

id just like to know if these two are comparable, one is better or synergystic smile.gif

Thanks

In that case...we'll wait for Matt or Colby to chime in...I don't know, but curious as well.

Sorry for the super late response, computer time has been limited lately. KE-99 (Gut Health) has quite a bit of research on it showing its effectiveness, which is why we licensed it: http://www.probiohealth.com/probioticke99.pdf

I haven't dug around for things on the strains in the NOW brand, but probiotics are a highly individual supplement- results will vary significantly because individual strain populations will be different in everyone depending on many variables. Probiotics can support the growth of other beneficial strains, so KE-99 would not only be effective on its own, but create an environment more suitable for other non-pathogenic strains, and so would the NOW brand.

It is impossible to compare the two strains with current data, so I would suggest trying each separately and see which one you respond best to, or both- there is no real danger in ODing on probiotic supplements unless it is an extremely high dose and very long term, i've seen a few studies at a year at a trillion per day being beneficia.

KE-99 is shelf stable although after you open it it's probably best to stick it in the fridge; other strains usually arrive most or completely dead upon opening the bottle, and I provided citations in the article. Doesn't mean they are completely useless, but they won't adhere to the mucus layer.

It's a specially developed strain of Lactobacillus Caseii, chosen for its heartiness and specific abilities to both displace pathogenic bacteria and prevent them from gaining any kind of foothold in the intestinal tract, as well as enhance nutrient absorption and bolster immune system.
