I'm not sure what all compounds exist for irreversible androgen antagonists, but assuming some do exist, and that hair follicles don't have some lame negative feedback mechanism like producing more AR (and I'm going to guess not, given that spironolactone and whatnot works), it would seem to me topical delivery of an irreversible androgen receptor antagonist would be a very long-lived hair loss treatment. Your average hair follicle lives about 4 years, so if this could be targeted to only affect the scalp topically, I think it would have the potential to be a very effective and infrequent treatment.

I've tried topical spironolactone, but it has a very short duration of effect, and is also quite unstable in a solution.

Other uses would be anti-acne, and so you wouldn't have to shave. (as much, vellous hair would still grow)

Anyone know of any other irreversible androgen antagonists than what's mentioned in this study?

yeah......i think some people already thought of this..........if you can find such a substance or make up one then run to get your patent and get rich.................

´thinking about substances is cool...but any kid can do that...i wanna see somebody actually constructing vialble chemichals.....

"If only i could kill HIV virus permanentily in AIDS patients.....then it would probably cure aids".....such type of thinkings are cool.......but the world dont work like this....
mr wonderful
Since many substances will be systemically absorbed through the skin to a certain extent, this would probably be a really bad idea.

Yeah, you wouldn't want anything like this being absorbed systemically, at all. That patent looked at using irreversible AR antagonists for treating prostate cancer, I'm going to guess there would be some, ahem, bad side effects with that.

Well, these compounds exist, so I think it's a bit easier than curing HIV. Efficacy, side effects, and cost would have to be right though.

Would there be any major side effects from long term finasteride use though?
The only antiandrogen I've heard of is something known as Androcur(I'm not sure about the duration of effects),and is only usually given to convicted sex offenders.

I'm saying topical use though, so as to only affect hair follicles, not systemic oral absorption.

I understand that, but would there be a market for it,considering that there are DHT
conversion inhibitors already out there?
Frangible
DHT inhibitors generally only work for vertex-type hair loss, and only to a certain degree. Very little works for receeding hairlines, which is mediated by testosterone more than DHT.

I'd never actually realised that, great link to encyclopediadramatica BTW.

Anything new on this?

The hair follicle might live 4 years, but Androgen Receptors renew every few hours if I am not mistaken.

Do you have any scientific reference to back up this statement?
