As stated. Been getting these bars at Walmart or Target for about $0.90/bar in a box of six 50g bars.

Macros are good and taste-wise, chocolate peanut butter is very good, as is chewy chocolate chip...S'mores is okay...have yet to try the peanut marshmallow eclipse and the fruit bars are so-so.

The bars are pretty good and choc. pb is my fav. too. However, they make me gassy as hell! Must be all of the sugar alcohols.
Heavy_Lifter85
These? http://www.a1nutrition.com/buy-Worldwide_N...ddjQ52Q#details

Contain hydrogenated oils, but not listed under trans fat content. Must be less than 0.5 per serving.
rpen22
Yeah, these are pretty good. I was out of town last week(road trip) and ended up eating a good amount of these since I could buy them at the gas stations.

fixed...and I note that the web site shows a 50g protein revolution bar but I've only ever seen it in the 78g size which retail for $1.50+

They bill these as trans-fat free so the hydrogenated oil content must be fairly small.

or it could be like .49999 which is a good amount, in any case, I like to avoid hydrogenated oil when at all possible.

Clif Builder's Bar are much better imo.. I like Peanut Butter and Cookies and Creme the best.

The sugar alcohols are not always kind to me. Sometimes I eat them and I'm fine, other times it gets pretty ugly. Not sure why the difference in response may have something to do with whatever else I ate that day.

I've been eating the Atkins Peanut Butter bars. The have some coconut oil and low on "net" carbs due to the high fiber. Pricey, though.

The VPX Zero Impact Meal Replacement Bar IMO has a superior ingredient profile. I have only tried the chocolate peanut butter flavor which is not fantastic tasting but it's more than tolerable.

The Clif Builder bar gives you 20g of sugar and most of the protein is from soy sad.gif

The VPX bar is better but its huge...4x the size of the Pure Protein bars.

I don't doubt that there are bars with more protein or less sugar alcohols than these but as a compromise between size, macros, taste and price, its hard to beat them if you are in the market for a very low carb protein bar.

judging by the way the label is set up and the generally knowledge that manufacturers dont give 3 shits what type of protein is in these bars, the hydrolyzed collagen deters me from ever considering these...go with good old balance bars, MET-RX, or detours ...detours even come in smaller sizes

Just picked up a box...same price as Pure Protein but only 15g of PRO...but tastes like a candy bar....

Vpx bars are awesome, minimal sugars good carbs
Kimbo
The VPX bars are gigantic and filling. Not too crazy about the taste, but they do the job.

Thanks Benson. I got some of the Pure Protein bars after reading this. Decent quality, good taste and inexpensive. I have a new treat now.

The "Twisted" bars are really good too. Small size, about 220 kcals and you can pick them up at Target on the cheap.

An apple and some beef jerky seems a hecka lot better than any protein/meal replacement bar. Pretty handy also. I've found some good jerky online that is better than any of the store bought stuff. Of course..you can make it yourself.

those are really good, kind of like a take 5 (one of my favorite candy bars) but they both contain trans fats, so I avoid them both...equally.

The best I have found. Use to buy it in Buffalo NY . Just online now. It is VERY salty but the real deal at a good price.

I steer clear of these because of the hydrolyzed collagen - who knows how much useable protein they include. I prefer Detour Oatmeal and Chef Jay's Trioplex bars. Neither are sickly sweet, and they use quality sources of protein and carbs.

Agreed WRT hydrolyzed collagen.

FWIW,Trioplex was tested a while back and did not meet label claims.

Signifigantly less protien, more fat and more carbs than the label stated. The calorie count on the label also fell shy.

I recall the failed lable claims, but since then the nutrition info on the bars has been updated and appears to be more believable (450 or so kcal, 16 or so grams of fat). Hopefully the protein count is truly around 30.
Colin
I was unaware that the label claims were updated.

Trioplex would make for a decent, filling MRP so this is good news and I remember them tasting pretty good as well.

Can anyone recommend a bar with low carbs. Don't care too much about amount of fat. It can have a fair amount of fat. It can have a reasonable amount of protein. Taste and texture can be medium, not necessarily fantastic.

I don't think sugar alcohols would be a problem for me. If I am not gastric sensitive to them then sugar alcohols are fine right?

Take a look at EAS Carb Sense. From what I recall, they have a decent macronutrient and ingredient profile. They also age very poorly (the inside seems to consume the coating and adhere to the package), so they are frequently available at a discount.
Benson
Atkins bars are great for low carb but they are expensive.

I agree, if price is an issue, these are pretty tastey and the ingredient profile is not bad. The supreme protein bars are still the best I've ever had though.

I'm guessing Nutra has the nutrition facts wrong? Supremeprotein.com states 360 calories and 16g fat.

I got a bunch of samples of these at the '07 Olympia and demolished them all in one night after coming home late from the clubs.

Anybody found any other hidden gems?

Atkins Peanut Butter Granola bar and Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bar.

Granola Bar 210 calories, 8g F, 18 CHO/4g Fiber, 17g PRO and the label says Atkins Net Carb Count 3g

Nougat Bar 150 calories, 7g F, 17g CH)/9g Fiber, 11g PRO

Neither have any sugar alcohol or trans fat in them. The Granola Bar really tastes just like one made from oats and the Nougat bar tastes like a candy bar.

so there's 18g of CHO in the granol but the net carb count is 3? I never get that stuff.

I'm not sure how Atkins counts them but they claim that those 18g of carbs have the glycemic effect of 3g of say, sucrose.
