Okay so I've been out of the gym for something like six months. Before I stopped I was always staying in the 4-6 rep range. Now though I've been going higher and usually stay in the 10-12 range. The problem is, my chest has absolutely no endurance. The rest of my body can handle the higher reps fine, but after just a couple of sets of 10-12 reps on chest, I have to drop the weight ridiculously low in order to finish all my sets.

So I'm wondering if anyone else experiences anything like this. Are some body parts for some people just better suited for lower reps? Or should I just keep on doing what I'm doing and hope that my chest will eventually become more accustomed to higher reps?

I will venture a guess and say that there is something in your chain that is failing other than your pectorals when performing the bench press. Delts, triceps, etc. Are you 100% positive it is your pecs failing and not one of the supporting muscles. And, depending on your form, these "supporting" muscles may actually be doing a good brunt of the work (think powerlifting).

I know from personal experience that my triceps seem to want to give before my pecs. I'm working on ironing out that imbalance.

In what order do you train your bodyparts? If you are hitting delts and/or triceps the day before chest, you may be taking some steam out of your chest day. Are you going to failure on the first few sets? I find that as soon as you fail, your following sets will suffer dramatically. I prefer to stay 1 rep shy of positive failure for probably 90% of my sets.

Chest and Biceps
Back and Triceps
Shoulders and Hams
Quads

And I make sure to flare my arms out when I bench--almost to a 90 degree angle to my body--to reduce tricep recruitment. And no I don't goto failure very often.
