So I was in the gym today and I saw a guy (relatively good shape, lean, vascular, dense) and he was jogging at a pace probably somewhere around 4-5mph. He had two dumbells 15 or 20lbs each. As he was jogging he would either do curls, tricep extensions, shoulder press... basically anything you would do while standing with dumbells. Anyone else experimented with this?
First thought is of course joint damage (knee specifically) but it seems to make sense in theory, blood is pumping vigorously systemically which may in turn require less reps, right?

First thought is laugh my ass off and refer to him as dumbass/dipshit or similar. Second thought would be, "get out the treadmill and do all that standing with a challenging weight".
Unless he wants to jog holding dumbbells to serve as extra resistance, the whole notion is retarded.

Ive never done any bodybuilding type workouts (mostly endurance), but I can tell you that rucking 4-5 miles with 70lbs on your back (at a 12-14min/mile pace) and a 20lber in each hand will give some nice trap/neck/shoulder/forearm development.

I would think most gyms would have some liability concerns about doing that. I'd also be a bit concerned about being near him in case he trips and throws the weight.
I would like to try using a weight vest though.
How much snickering would I deserve if I loaded my backpack with sandbags and got on the tread mill. Slow speed, full incline.
Then again, I live in the south. they hate nature unless they're killing it.

I did the backpack thing for awhile with a 40 lb medicine ball. I would stop every two miles and do a complex of medicine ball exercises, was running about 6 at the time. The only problem was that backpacks didn't last to long running with a 40 lb medicine ball in them.

I forget the guy's name (he's big into kettlebells... first name Mike maybe?) He had an article on using implements while jogging. Set up stations around a 1/4 mile track - kettlebells, jump rope, etc. Jog to one station, do some kettlebell swings... jog, next station, pushups... jog, next station, jump rope... etc. Seems like it would be pretty damned effective. Dunno about using any of that while running, though, but weighted vests are always a good option.

bad for your shoulders, will mess up your running mechanics, and will SKY rocket your blood pressure. Blood has to be shuttled into your arms where it is normally shunted, and then holding a weight in your hands makes you constrict all of those muscles making it harder to pump the blood to and from there.

Trueness, but if you train for infiltration behind enemy lines, with 5 guys carrying enough weaponry to take out a small army......It helps
