Another one of those threads…
Eighteen month selegiline (deprenyl) experiment is ending sometime next month. Seeking information regarding any effects with cessation of this drug.
Wallowing-in-self-pity background information:
The first three years of my college experience were depressive ones, although I never identified a reason why this was the case. Depression seemed to deepen with time, eventually leading me to seek medical attention for personal safety. Prozac 20mg produced no positive benefits; instead, I gained weight, felt mentally foggy, and lacked physical energy (more so than while merely depressed). There were a few meetings with a psychiatrist, also with no positive benefit. My dislike for the particular practitioner and/or reluctance to 'open up' may have been to blame. (Well, that and I think 'talk therapy' is useless as a treatment option.) Student health insurance would not cover bupropion (wellbutrin). Obtained 30x150mg/day wellbutrin SR some time later. One-hundred fifty milligrams was beneficial; 300mg completely resolved depressive symptoms. However, cash-flow considerations made deprenyl more economical. Ten milligrams oral was the most effective dose, having tried 5 - 20 milligrams with single and divided doses. Have continued using selegiline to this day.
Further thoughts:
Pros: resolved depressive symptoms, nootrophic effect, increased drive/motivation
Cons: Emotions blunted, both positive and negative (to the point were I sat stone-faced through Borat). Being, by mature, rather remote/reserved this was manageable; however, current condition does strain friendships and intimate relationships.
Overall, the experience has been more positive than negative (I am still alive, you know).
There appear to be several options:
-Order more selegiline. Not comfortable with the illegality of this option.
-Taper off selegiline and hope depression does not return. As the cause was never determined, I cannot say if the trigger (if any) has been removed.
-Taper off selegiline and seek medical attention if depression re-occurs.
-Inform a psychiatrist of selegiline use with hope of obtaining a prescription for the Emsam patch or wellbutrin. This reeks of drug-seeking behavior.
-Replicate the effects of selegiline with legal supplements, etc.
Please feel free to add any thoughts or personal experiences regarding cessation of selegiline or suggestions for creating a lasting deprenyl-like effect via supplementation.

deprenyl is not illegal, in fact you can buy it as a research chemical now. No supplements will match deprenyl. One can order wellbutrin from india rather cheaply, let me know if you want a source. Getting a script for wellbutrin or deprenyl is NOT drug seeking behavior, faking a bad back for oxy is drug seeking.

Good to know about the deprenyl.
My wellbutrin was the Indian variety, probably from the same source. Ordering this would be illegal, right?
I just read caffeine has greater habit-forming behavior qualities than deprenyl, so you're probably right. My somewhat cynical view of the medical profession leads me to believe seeking a prescription without displaying depressive symptoms (Ideally I don't become depressed just so I can recover again, i.e. I get the script before my deprenyl stock runs dry.) would still be construed as drug-seeking though.
Thanks for your input lynx.

It's legal to order deprenyl online. I buy it every few months and Never had a problem. Email me if you want more info.

I would add some Piracetam to the mix, I believe it has attenuated to the emotional dulling effects Dep has had on me in the past. I can't imagine getting off now that I have hit the right dosing with Pir as an adjunct, I feel amazing.

Thanks guys.
Aniracetam has not produced the effects you describe with regard to piracetam. Will give it a go.

I like using it with Oxiracetam.
