Alright, when cutting or bulking, does it really matter if you eat before you fall asleep? I'm getting mixed signals here: Some people saying that carbs before bed will go straight to fat, and some people saying that that's an urban legend. What do you guys think?

Urban legend, mostly. What you eat at bedtime can be important to your overall metabolic state, but if you're isocaloric the timing is much less significant.

I don't eat before bed even if I am starving anymore, since most of the time I have eaten my daily nutrients and abstaining often avoids unnecessary cals. There was a point where I would eat right before bed to just avoid catabolism only to discover through trial and error that it was making me fat and doing little for muscle growth.

Tons of addition info on nutrient timing around here as well if you have a Search.

I concur with the above and share similar experiences.

Nowadays, I usually end up having my last meal 3-4 hours before going to bed. If I just happen to train particularly hard during the day I may have a mostly-protein shake or something light like that.

Whenever I eat real food very close to bedtime (meats/vegetables)....I can feel the difference when I wake up.

I agree, but I think it varries from person to person. Like you said, if I eat say a steak 30min to and hour before bed, I definetly feel it in the morning, like almost "pumped" but in a good way.

so much more than the caloric control that dietary cutoffs inherant offer is the fact they force a sort of psychological compliance as an added benefit; it is this benefit which is so much more helpful. dietary fuckups are just so much more likely to occur when you can go to bed immediately following them, not having to 'deal' psychological with them for 'the rest of day' and can just chalk it up to "ill do better tomorrow"

but of course, if you havent trained recently, it is negative even from a dietary standpoint because if you havent trained recently then insulin sensitivity isnt maximized

or some shit like that?

If I'm hungry before bed I have to eat, otherwise I'll frequently wake up in the middle of the night hungry.

Same here...but not necessarily from hunger, more from just hypoglycemia.

its all in the context of daily feeding and activity, so that has to be factored in. (along with pheontype)
