This was the best shaving soap I've ever used. Tried to order one from Nutraplanet, but they said that y'all don't make round bars for shaving mugs any more. Any chance you'd offer these again? Or is demand not high enough?

This isn't a bad idea.
I've been lurking around a little bit on badger & blade and Shavemyface trying to pick up some info on using a straight razor and such.
I did get (and used up already) a shaving soap from the drugstore. From the forums it sounds like there are much better products out there but even it was MUCH better than any shaving gel I've used with my mach3.

It's a bit of a niche market, but I think if you tweaked the formula a little it would sell very well as a shaving soap. It's already great... maybe add something in to soften up the whiskers, something else to help them pop out a bit... I think the sesamin really helps with irritation/cuts.

I'll fess up. And I'd know that taste anywhere. You need to drink less coffee and eat more pineapple.

The pineapple effect would irritate your skin.

I'm looking around for a new razor, leaning towards at Merkur Futur - in which case I'll be needing a round bar for the shaving mug. I'll know in the next few days. If so, think I can snake a few as well?

D Sade,
Is the Java Lather soap capable of being grated and remelted? Maybe people can just melt and pour their own shaving soap circle blocks. Or whatever other shapes that they want. (butt plug, etc)

Yes...it is formulated to be able to be heated and reformed.
A perfect mold is to use the Silicone Muffin molds from Walmart...they are exactly the right shape and size. Fill them about 3/4 full.

I ran across an article a month or two ago that got into the ingredients in shaving soap and how they related to softening the follicles. If I can remember where I'll post the link.

If you can find it, I will hook you up with some of the original bars, as well as the shaving version.
I actually stood in front of the HeadBlade booth at the Arnold for around 20 minutes debating whether to talk to them about making a Java Lather version (like a thick foamy shaving liquid) to brand under their label.
First, they didn't strike me as very friendly. Second, nobody there seemed to really be a decision maker.
Still thinking about contacting them about it.

Mmm Java bars
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=9745That was is. I think he gets into it a little bit more further into the thread but I haven't read through the whole thing.
From what I looked at (and I haven't been lurking long by any means) tallow based shaving soaps are considered superior but seem to be getting fazed out.
I have almost zero sense of smell so I always thought it was odd with tanning lotions that women would drop $50 on a bottle and seem more concerned about how it smelt than how well or if it worked.
The guys on the shaving forums seem almost as obsessed about the scent.
oh btw
http://www.groominglounge.com/molbrowrecbl.html this stuff is apparently the defacto luxury mens body wash. Its a black pepper scent which sounds interesting. Might be worth picking up a bottle to check out the competition. I'm curious about it but thats a hella expensive bodywash.

I admit it...I am a bathing product snob. Nothing gets my mindset right like having a nice routine:
I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Hm. Might be interesting to make a soap based around using fresh ground pepper for scent and exfoliating properties. Maybe with some lemon scent? Or that might be too food like. But maybe a sharp smelling herb (or the scent of pine leaves and or juniper?) would go along well with it. Think i still have a melt and pour kit around here somewhere...

A little more information in this thread than I really wanted to know.....
Hey Matt, who has the best price going for the bars??
(considering that they passed all of the freebies out on Saturday and I waited in line for 10 minutes Sunday just to find out they did not have any left)
Ok, I have stopped my whining......
I really do like the bars though. I have very sensitive skin and it did not cause me one bit of irritation. Going to have to stock up though as I seem to have gone through my one bar pretty quicky.

My solution to this is to use the bar on areas you want to improve (for me this is my shoulders), then apply some to a wash cloth and use that on the rest of your body. Really helps to stretch the bar out.

Pretty sure BB.com has the lowest prices, though the GUT Health/Jumbo combo at Nutraplanet is pretty sweet.

I found working a lather on exfoliating gloves makes the bar last longer. I've been going back and forth between the bar and liquid, and I get a much better lather from the bar. With the liquid I find myself having to reapply more.
