You would be blown away by all the guys that absolutely lose in lifting because of their mindset.
I CONSTANTLY get emails from clients saying that last workout was SUPER HARD, I don't think I will be able to get an increase next week, what should I do?
Fuck, its supposed to be super hard. Know what I think? I think you should quit telling yourself you are going to miss next week. I KNOW if you convince yourself enough you will miss you will. Just do it. If you miss, then you miss--so what. Why are you telling yourself this week you will miss next week. I have done workouts that left me sick and puking on the floor and came back the next week and set a PR.
When you stall, you stall, don't mentally stall yourself before it happens physically.

I've always felt like psyching yourself out was just a bad idea all together and we are capable of far more than we allow ourselves to believe.
I also grew more when I stopped thinking I had to throw up after working out to think it was a productive day at the gym.

I always seem to do better when I keep my training simple. If I get too complicated with it I tend to not want to do it any more.

In management you learn that the self fulfilling prophecy is also created by outside forces (management) for instance if you think an employee is useless they will eventually become useless even if you never directly told them so. Simply because of indirect means; your actions, tone, and body language.
You could transfer this to training. If you hang around people who are not supportive of your goals, are constantly telling you your going to get injured, your not good enough to obtain your goal, etc. Then you probably won't be very successful. That being said you could use that as motivation, however, there is a limit to how much a person can take before they start questioning themselves.
Obviously the internal force is stronger, but would the outside force ever be an issue unless you made it internal?
