Ok went to me first yoga/pilates class, I swear its not like it sounds. It was a bit slow at times (the whole relaxation and useless flowing movements parts) but it has some uses. I picked up some a few new stretches, and received a decent/needed stretch. Many of the stretches/movements I already knew about from previous M&M issues and additionally from speaking with physiotherapists.

Interesting thing is the previous day my hamstrings had a mild stiffness to them, even though that is probably my most flexible area. I then trained them using weights I've used before (that didn't result in DOMS) but I can already tell I'm going to be sore tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I've heard err read about the benefits of loaded stretches after your last set, but never about use on off days.

That being said, I'll probably go a few more times to get some new stretches. Besides the instructor is cute and I'm nearly as flexible as her, shouldn't be long till I catch up. It also doesn't hurt being the only guy in a class of ~45. If I was in my late 30's early 40s and single, this would be a gold mine.

I cannot stress enough how awesome yoga is. It is by far the best thing to do for one's body. Stretching, deep stretching and static holds are just the beginning. Awesome stuff.

I decided to attend yoga class just to try it out, the first couple of times I kept thinking "this is fucking retarded" "what the fuck am I doing" "This is some bullshit". When you outweigh everybody else by +100lbs of muscle, you tend to look out of place.

I decided to ride* it out and after a few weeks I was hooked. Now I go twice a week, 3 times if I just run across a class.

it's great stuff and it "undoes" all the imbalances you get from working out or sitting at a desk. If I do yoga three times in a week I will literally feel myself walking taller and feeling better as I move around. There's a bunch of tightness in my hips and back that I don't even know about until I set it free. Then I walk around picking up around the house and feel like I've been set free.

Definitely, I'm going to be going at least for this month. I've already added a few new stretches for after my legs to help eliminate this tightness.

It was a bit embarrassing at first with the "relaxing movements" and the fact that I seemed to draw some serious attention, but whatever I'm benefiting from it.

It maybe useful to note, I'm very flexible by anyones standards for the main stretches/muscles. Yoga is helping me find tight spots, mostly in the hips, inner thighs, and outer muscles of the hip/oblique area that are lacking.

Currently a piriformis stretch followed by the camel stretch and I'm feeling a substantial relief, add in the various lunges I learnt and I've hit the vast majority of what I've been missing.

The lunges especially stretch deep into the hips and thighs in ways that standing around in the gym holding your foot will never come close to. Plus, you get the strength building from the static hold of the opposite leg and most likely are holding your posture and twisting your back forward and in general just paying attention to every single part of your body which is a benefit just by itself (mind-body connection).
