i've been taking like a gram a day of citrate, plus what i get from diet. is there a maximum one should take?

I'd say the maximum is whatever dose doesn't give you diarrhea...are you very physically active?

I'm taking a gram a day myself of the same - I use NOW brand. This loosens my stool quite a bit at this level so occassionally I back it down to 800mg for a couple days. Can't answer your question as to the max though other than I do the same.

I've never noticed any difference with my logs from magnesium. That includes downing a whole bottle of that lemon flavored tonic water stuff.


And i'm not very physically active other than 45 mins of excercise a few times a week, and occasional slacklining and clubbing.

Still, it is a highly important mineral that a lot of people seem to lack sufficient quantities of.

I'd agree with Bachovas- the amount you should take is the amount that makes your stools comfortably loose.
