wanted to know what supplements are out there for serotonin. I like the mood enhancement of serotonin, and I have not tried tryptophan, but does anyone reccomend it? I heard its better for crossing the blood brain barrier and excess serotonin wont get produced outside of the brain (peripheral) I have tried the following supps:
1. 5HTP: it works but i dont like the fact that a lot of it does not enter the brain and goes into the peripheral system caused unwanted side effects... after awhile it seems to make me demotivated as well. I also get nauseous sometimes and dizzy.
2. Fish oil: good bb supp but also effects my mood and makes me feel flat (i think its due to serotonin reuptake which affects the fealing of serotonin release)

Is tryptophan worth a try or will it just give me the same side effects? and will taking doses of tryptophan screw up balance of neurotransmitters if im not taking anything else? (tyrosine, choline etc.) btw ive never tried mdma or that purple drank

From what I have read, Kanna is a natural SSRI. I have some on the way and I will post my results when I try it.

I'm not sure, I might.

Tryptophan works way better than 5-htp, all the research with 5-htp was done with a decarboxylase inhibitor.

ive heard about the decarboxylase inhibitor, but what exactly does it do?
can someone clear that up for me
I also heard if there is any vitamin B5 intake then it messes with 5htp

I can attest to that. The first couple days are amazing but tolerance builds very quickly. I get a very nice buzz off 2 grams, but the next day I could take 6 grams and have no effect. I need atleast a month between doses to get any effect out of it. Kindof like phenibut tolerance.

I remember reading somewhere in Tihkal where Shulgin mentions you can get hallucinations from an initial dose of 15grams. I think that's very possible for first time users.

B6. it causes 5htp conversion to 5ht in the blood, so take them far apart from each other.

haven't taken tryptophan itself, but the 5-htp does indeed work well, even without the drug to prevent conversion.

you could also eat a green banana.

I mistakenly heap-tea-spooned a measure of 5Htp and had one of the most relevant trips of my life.

Are you using pure 5HTP or the plant extract?

I've got 33% standardized extract and find it impossible to keep a spoonful down. Even after masking the taste, the stuff always spews out.

HaHaHa.....! That's suck's bro.

I've read tryptophan must be taken with niacin to avoid the tryptophan=>niacin conversion pathway. So that is what I do.

I also prefer tryptophan over 5-HTP. Take it with vitamin b6.

In pill form? I'm interested to hear about your experiences.

green bananas are high enough in tryptophan that some populations that subsist on them get heart valve fibrosis. but i'm not sure how green is green. maybe greener than what you find in the store. those have already been aged a bit.

Yes, in pill form. I ordered it from a reputable company too.
