Given the fact that many people is having trouble with deprenyl and drug tests I think it would be interesting to find if stacking a few products one could get decent MAO-b inhibition... enough to get significant effects out of PEA.

Some say that hordenine is a MAO inhibitor, although there seems to be no study to confirm this and, at the same time, the feedback from hordenine + PEA seems not to be too different than that of PEA by itself, if I am not mistaken. I have been reading about Ayahuasca, which is a mixture of plants used to get mystical experiences, and it looks like it contains harmala alkaloids that make the DMT the mixture contains (not active otherwise) produce those kind of experiences. All I can do right now is quote from wikipedia, but I guess that's better than nothing:

" (Monoamine oxidase inhibitor) alkaloids found in seeds of Peganum harmala (also known as Harmal or Syrian Rue)- harmine, harmaline, and tetrahydroharmine- are collectively known as harmala alkaloids. The harmala alkaloids are of great interest for their complicated relation to phyto-indole entheogens used in Amazonian shamanism. The harmala alkaloid harmine - once known as Telepathine and Banisterine - is a naturally occurring beta-carboline alkaloid that is structurally related to harmaline. The Shulgins suggest harmaline is a breakdown product of harmine [1]. Harmine and harmaline are reversible MAOIs. They can stimulate the central nervous system by inhibiting the metabolism of monoamines compounds- such as serotonin.

The harmala alkaloids occur in harmal in concentrations of roughly 3%, though tests have documented anywhere from 2-7%, as natural sources tend to vary widely in chemical makeup. Harmala alkaloids are also found in the Banisteriopsis caapi vine, the key plant ingredient in the sacramental beverage Ayahuasca, in concentrations that range between 0.31-8.43% for harmine, 0.03-0.83% for harmaline and 0.05-2.94% for tetrahydroharmine [THH].[1] Many other psychoactive plants are often added to Ayahuasca to achieve visionary consciousness, including leaves from "Psychotria viridis", a source of DMT, The harmala alkaloids serve to potentiate these brewed compounds by preventing their breakdown in the digestive tract. The harmala alkaloids are also psychoactive on their own if the dosage is sufficient, perhaps due to endogenous sources of DMT in the human brain.

Harmala alkaloids are also found in many other plants, such as tobacco and passion flower."

It might be quite interesting if there was an extract standarized for these MAO-I alkaloids.

Another feature I would consider very important is that of REVERSIBILITY. In fact, if deprenyl were a reversible inhibitor it would be much better from my point of view, since you could take it just whenever you want to have your MAO-b inhibited to take your PEA supplement and, the rest of the time, you wouldn't have to worry about interactions.

P.S.: Can this thread be moved to the Neuroscience section?

Far to easy to get into a hypertensive crisis with Peganum conc ex.. It's great with mushrooms though.
