Does anyone know anything about broadening your shoulders by increasing the space between your your scapulas? I once read somewhere where it stated that you could actually physically widen your shoulders and not just give the illusion of broader shoulders [eg bigger delts, smaller waist]. They said this was possible because the scapulas are kind of like free floating bones that are not attached to other bones. Does anyone know anything about this?

??? I would think someone who quotes Voltaire would be smart enough to realize that the "flash" was a desired effect and one that I induced using photoshop.

Negative ghostrider, you can not widen a bone. You can push them further out along the ribcage but that won't do anything good for our body. You can also not make the shoulders wider in any other way. The collar bones (clavicles) are as long as they are going to get. Muscle is the only thing that can be added.

Deadlifts



Alright compound lifts are what you need. I wouldn't be concerned about this issue at all, chins rows & deadlifits will make you wider. People complain when sitting next to me because my shoulders take up too much room. I haven't done a side lateral raise in years, and I used to have "small shoulders". IMO training for "bigger delts, smaller waist" is small potatoes in comparison to the above mentioned for your goal of width. Hell add in some upright rows and or side lateral raises if you want, that's all you need.

So your lats get so big they serve as shelves for your shoulders and arms to sit in then?

Pretty much, you'd probably also have a better posture so your shoulders don't just cave in when your squished in a car. But if width isn't the main goal and shoulder definition is a major concern then upright rows and side lateral raises would be more important.

As for this scapula spacing, maybe deadlifts shrugs and various rows would help this department anyways? But IMO this is a posture effect that could cause the illusion of wider scapula? All I know is Tron can easily put on 30 lbs of muscle, and if width is his goal that will get him there.
